–Castle, Shatter Me

Castle is the leader and founder of Omega Point. He has the power of psychokinesis.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Castle is extremely private about his past. He was a scientist. It’s been at least ten years since Castle and Nouria, his daughter, have seen each other. Darrence and Jabari, Castle’s sons and Nouria’s brothers, were murdered by police officers when they refused to let them into their house without a warrant. This was before The Reestablishment took over. Castle wasn’t home but Nouria was and saw what happened. Castle said it felt like he’d lost three children that day.

Nouria never recovered. She grew detached and listless. One day she disappeared. The Reestablishment picked her up off the street and shipped her wherever “they felt there was a need to fill.” Nouria was collected against her will and sent to another sector. Castle knew it happened because The Reestablishment sent him a receipt for his child. She now lives in Sector 241, essentially across the continent from Sector 45.

Castle met Kenji Kishimoto when Kenji was eight years old. Kenji was living on the streets. Castle came up to the boy and introduced himself but when Kenji took his time to respond, Castle believed that he scared him. After about a solid thirty seconds of silence, Kenji introduced himself to Castle in a such a formal manner, it made the man immediately fall in love with him. Castle became like a second father to the orphaned Kenji.

Shatter Me[]

Castle first talks to Juliette Ferrars when she arrives at Omega Point, stating that he has heard about her and is finally glad they can meet. Then he gives her a tour of Omega Point, demonstrating his psychokinesis at one point and awing Juliette. Castle also frequently tells her to harness her power, which she doesn't quite understand. Castle is the first one who accepts Juliette as she joins the Rebellion.

Unravel Me[]

Castle allows Juliette to truly study and experiment with her Energy, all in preparation for the battle that is yet to come, the uprising against The Reestablishment. He studies and controls every rebel's superpower in order for each one of them to reach their full potential and to be able to use this for the battle. Castle plays a major role in Juliette's character development.

Ignite Me[]

Castle first appears as a shell shocked victim of trauma, since, after all, every single thing that he has built and dreamed of has been destroyed. He spends all day sitting in a chair, staring off into space, and only moves to eat and go to the bathroom. Juliette finds it shocking that the once charismatic and passionate man has been reduced to only a thin husk of his brilliant former self. Luckily, this change is not permanent, and after a bit of drama involving Adam Kent and Juliette, Castle speaks up for the first time in days, chuckling about how she always makes things more interesting. Needless to say, the remaining Omega Point members are overjoyed to have their leader back. However, for the rest of the book, Castle rests the role of leader on Juliette's shoulders and supports her from behind.

Castle is sort of a reminder of why the "good Juliette" image was a failure and why she must now turn her sweet into vinegar and go throw her badassery all over the Reestablishment. Despite his support of Juliette, Castle keeps important secrets about her and her past from her.

Restore Me[]

Castle reveals to Aaron Warner that Juliette and her sister Emmaline Sommers were planted in Warner's life as part of an experiment. It used to be Warner's job to torture Emmaline.

Castle and Kenji have a father-son relationship. Castle raised Kenji ever since he found him as an eight-year-old. They care greatly about each other and have been through thick and thin. Juliette says that Kenji would probably choose Castle over her if the situation ever presented itself. After Kenji learns that Castle knew the truth about Juliette’s history and that he’d sent Kenji on an undercover mission to collect her, Kenji feels a bit strange about their relationship. It’s not enough for Kenji to lose faith in Castle entirely because they have been through too much for Kenji to doubt his love, but it was still a lot of big secrets for Castle to keep from him. Castle’s “greatest wish for Kenji is for him to see himself the way Castle does. Castle thinks Kenji is a brilliant, handsome, compassionate young man who would do anything for the people he loves.”

Juliette Ferrars[]

Castle had a great interest in Juliette from the beginning. He wanted her to join him at Omega Point and sent Kenji to follow her, protect her, and bring her back to Omega Point. Castle has been an advisor and mentor for Juliette, to harness her energy and control her emotions.

Nouria[]

Castle hasn’t heard a word from Nouria in years, not since his sons, her brothers, were murdered. Castle was giving Nouria space because he thought she needed time. He figured they’d eventually find their way to each other. But after the sectors were erected it became almost impossible to contact loved ones.
