Aaron Warner Anderson is the Chief Commander and Regent of Sector 45. He is the son of Supreme Commander Paris Anderson and Leila Warner and the half-brother of Adam and James Kent. He has the power to absorb and amplify the powers of others.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Aaron Warner was born to Leila Warner and Paris Anderson in what was known as California. When he was five and up until eighteen, his fathers birthday presents were beatings and whippings. Anderson thought that giving him real gifts would make Warner weak and dependent on others. His first and only actual gift was from his mother. It was a green ring that he now always wears on his pinkie. She gave it to him on his sixth birthday as a distraction while they hid from Anderson and told him a story of a man carving the jade ring off the color of Warner's eyes. When he was seven, his dad told him he was too old to cry anymore.

Throughout much of Warner's life his father taught him to be cold, unfeeling, and to bury his emotions, like a machine. He spent a large part of his life training. His father taught him how to shoot a gun when he was nine years old. Many times, Anderson woke up to find his son trying to kill him in his sleep, but every time, Warner broke down and could not follow through with it. When he was sixteen, Anderson and the other supreme commanders agreed that their children would shoot each other. Not to kill, but to disable, so they could learn what a bullet felt like. Warner was the fastest and shot all the other children. Anderson was proud while Warner vomited.

He can fieldstrip, clean, reload, disassemble, and reassemble more than 150 different types of firearms. He can shoot a target through the center from almost any distance, break a person’s windpipe with only the edge of his hand, and can temporarily paralyze a man with nothing but his knuckles.

His mother, who was sick from her power, needed to be "stored" in a house away from the compounds. Warner took her last name and asked to be the leader of Sector 45 in order to stay in close proximity to her. He used the resources he received as sector leader to try and find a cure for his mother, which leads him to discover Juliette Ferrars a girl with similar powers as his mother.

Shatter Me[]

Warner is a Colonel, and the Chief Regent of Sector 45 in the R.A.F., or Reestablishment Armed Forces. The most notable of his many responsibilities include overseeing all 3,700 soldiers currently housed on base and communicates with other H.O.S., or Heads of Sectors, on defense strategies, R.A.F. rules and regulations, work and housing concerns for citizens, and the further development of every stage in our evolving world.

His research for a cure for his mother led him to Juliette's files by pure accident. He needed an excuse to have access to Juliette and to gain the necessary clearance to study her files, so he tells his father he wants to utilize her as "a weapon of mass destruction in securing The Reestablishment's future."

Warner proposes that Juliette should join his team in order to torture people for him. He previously sent Adam to spy on Juliette to check if she was insane or actually capable of human interaction. Juliette declines his offer, which seemingly makes Warner displeased. He begins to threaten her but has no luck. Warner claims to remove Juliette from the Asylum so he can study her powers for military purposes. His actual goal is to try and reverse-engineer her abilities to find a cure for his mother.

Warner later invites Juliette to dinner. He comments on her clothes, but she continues to ignore and loathe him. After Warner referred to Juliette as 'love', she replied with a nasty comment to Warner, which causes Warner to get out his gun and blindly shoot a platter of food, seemingly to intimidate her.

As he accompanies Juliette to her room, he explains that they do not need to be enemies and once again proposes that both of them could be unstoppable together. Once again, she declines. She asks for Warner's first name, however instead of telling her, he bargains by asking her to touch him. Juliette refuses to touch him, so Warner asks a soldier named Jenkins to touch Juliette instead, knowing full and well that this will end in the soldier's harm. Later on, it is discovered that Warner was doing this for her. He thought that by showing her potential, he would prevent the harassment of his soldiers towards her, which works.

Warner is next seen by Juliette on Warner's bed. His hands are on her shoulders as he tries to comfort her after she almost killed Jenkins.

The next day, Warner wakes Juliette up and he accompanies her back to her room. Juliette notices that his soldiers are scared of her as word spreads quickly of Juliette's power. Warner merely says he made Jenkins come in contact with her skin to protect her, though Juliette doubts him.

Warner leads Juliette up to rows of soldiers. On their way, Juliette makes a remark about his "poor mother," and Warner suddenly becomes startled and nervous. Once Juliette explains that she had only been trying to make a joke, he eventually settles, although the rest of the trip is made in silence. He introduces Juliette to the army and abruptly announces that Seamus Fletcher has been stealing food and supplies then shoots him for his actions. He dismisses the soldiers after Fletcher is killed. When the pair are out of sight, Juliette grabs Warner's shirt and insults him, calling him cruel for callously killing a man.

Warner meets with Juliette the next day. He compliments her appearance, but she doesn't look at him. He orders Juliette to have dinner with him.

One week passes and both Warner and Juliette have been spending more time with each other. Warner continues to watch Juliette's every move. He escorts her everywhere, he decides where she will be at each part of the day.

Warner shows distrust towards Juliette when she asks for her cameras to be taken down. He also shows signs of amusement towards her actions. Later, he forces her to save a toddler from spikes protruding from the ground, but he does not give her gloves to protect the boy from her skin. When Adam and Juliette try to escape later on, Warner's hand brushes Juliette's leg in an attempt to stop her, and he finds out, like Adam, that he can touch and be unharmed by Juliette.

Days later, Warner and his soldiers find Adam, Kenji Kishimoto, and Juliette in the building where Adam's brother is taught. Warner shoots Adam and he is dragged into a slaughterhouse, awaiting death. Warner then sees Juliette, and backs her up against a wall. He tells her that he is in love with her, and when he leans forward to try to kiss her, Juliette sees a gun in his jacket, and pretends to be attracted to him in order to distract him enough to steal the gun. Juliette succeeds, although not before realizing that she likes his kiss, and when she gets the gun, she shoots him in the shoulder and runs off to find Adam. Leaving Warner injured with a gun shot.

Destroy Me[]

Aaron has just been shot by Juliette in the shoulder. Despite his injury, he is determined to regain control of Sector 45 and to track down Juliette, Kenji, and Adam. Warner realizes that he has misinterpreted Juliette's happiness. He thought she was falling in love with him, but she was actually happy about being with Adam. Delalieu Warner brings Aaron updates on the search for Juliette, Kenji, and Adam. They go to see the slaughterhouse where Adam was being held. The steel door has been clawed open, right through the middle.

Due to his gunshot wound, and not following his doctors' orders, Warner overdoses on pain medication and eventually passes out. He is unconscious for three days. When he wakes up, he learns his father has arrived twenty-seven hours ago. His father is the Supreme Commander of North America. Anderson is furious with Warner and is here to "clean up the mess he made."

Unravel Me[]

Warner is first seen feeding a starving dog in the cold while no one is looking. Juliette, however, watches his actions in disbelief. She thought of him as a monster, but the boy in front of her is surely not one. In her haste to get away, she knocks a few things over, and Warner sees her. Kenji arrives and projects onto her in order to escape.

Warner is next seen when Juliette shoots his father, Anderson, in the legs, and nearly kills him. Kenji intervenes and knocks out Warner, and together they go back to Omega Point. Warner is placed in a holding cell, where he rages and demands to see Juliette. During the multiple times when she comes to "interrogate" him, they have intense conversations and get to know each other better.

Soon, but before the battle with Anderson, Warner deceives Castle and tells him he wants to join the Resistance. Castle readily agrees and Warner is let out of his room. After Castle announces this to the people of Omega Point in the mess hall, there is an angry riot, and Juliette runs out with Adam close behind. Warner catches her in the hallway, and Warner and Adam argue. Kenji comes out to intervene and ends up touching both of them, while Juliette has a hand on Warner's chest. Warner transfers her power accidentally into Kenji's body, and Kenji is taken to the medical wing after being nearly killed.

Juliette panics, and Warner pulls her off into a dimly lit side hallway, and using Warner's power-transfer capability, together, they punch through the floor. Then, Warner starts to ask Juliette something, but Juliette hears Adam calling her name, and tells Warner she'll be right back. However, when she returns, he is gone.

Warner goes to her room, and asks to talk to Juliette. She opens the door for him, and Warner asks her to come with him in an escape he has planned. He tells her that he is in love with her, and kisses her. She does not refuse. They end up tangled in her bed, but when he says to her that "I want it to be different now. I want you to call me Aaron," she chokes and thinks of Adam, and shoves down her true feelings for Warner. Angry and tremendously hurt, Warner leaves.

During the battle, when Juliette goes to a house on unregulated territory to meet with Anderson, he summons Warner there, and tells him to shoot her, because Anderson thinks that his infatuation with Juliette is unhealthy and is a sign of weakness. Warner refuses, and Anderson shoots her himself, then leaves Warner to "clean up." Sonya and Sara arrive, and Warner convinces them to grab his arms so he can transfer their healing power into Juliette. Warner takes Juliette up into his childhood bedroom, and sleeps with her until she wakes.

Ignite Me[]

It's revealed that Warner is not a monster, but lied about his obsession with the Reestablishment and wants to help Juliette fight back. He stays with her on Sector 45 base and takes her to see Omega Point, even though he tells her that it was destroyed. When he takes her there, they run into Kenji, and Warner takes Kenji's power and uses it to make himself invisible. He hands Juliette a pager and tells her that if she needs him, she needs to press the pager.

Warner revealed to Juliette that everything he had done to her was to protect her. He admitted that he had been cold and cruel, that he didn't know any other way because it was all he was ever taught as a child and also due to the immense security that monitored him every moment of the day. He said he would never do it to her again now that he knows her. Warner says the reason he had made a spectacle out of her with Jenkins was because his soldiers had to see what she was capable of so they would not harass her. He wanted to see the true extent of Juliette's powers.

Juliette leaves with Kenji when he tells her there are other survivors, and Warner goes back to the base. When Juliette repeatedly presses the pager during a tense fight with Adam, Warner dramatically barges into the safe house and makes sure Juliette is safe and comfortable with the others. Juliette tells him that Adam told her to leave, and pleads him to let her friends move in on base with them to train for another attempt at rebellion. Reluctantly, Warner agrees.

Juliette and Warner train with Kenji and the survivors after the bombing of Omega Point. Juliette discovers that she has the ability to control her lethal touch, therefore having the ability to touch anyone she wants. With this realization, she can choose whoever she wants to be with, and Juliette recognizes her love for Warner. She admits this to him, and they go on to sleep together.

Adam reveals that the name of Supreme Commander Anderson is in fact Paris. Warner overhears this, and immediately pins Adam to the wall, stating if he was sent to kill him or spy on them. Juliette then pleads Warner to stop, but Warner refuses, saying that even those closest to Supreme Commander Anderson do not know his real name and it would be impossible for Adam to know. Juliette then says that Adam is his brother. Warner then releases Adam, shocked. A short while later, right before Warner and Juliette are to head up stairs to Warner's room, Warner goes and speaks to Adam. When Warner and Juliette are upstairs, Warner tells Juliette that he would like to spend some time and get to know Adam and James.

Juliette proposes a plan that they should take control of the soldiers of Sector 45 and use them to lure Anderson back to Sector 45. The plan works, and Juliette, Warner, and everyone else fights in a huge battle. Juliette finds Anderson and kills him by shooting him in the head twice, once for Adam and once for Warner, and the rebels win the battle.

Ignite Me ends with Warner saying, "You know, the whole world will be coming for us now," to which Juliette responds, "I can't wait to watch them try."

Restore Me[]

Castle reveals to Warner that Juliette and her sister Emmaline Sommers were planted in Warner's life as part of an experiment. It used to be Warner's job to torture Emmaline.

Defy Me[]

Juliette gets kidnapped by her adoptive parents Evie and Maximillian (Max) Sommers, who want to use her as a replacement for Juliette's sister Emmaline, who has been used for operation synthesis. Emmaline has lost four out of her five senses, and her health is constantly deteriorating. Nazeera and Kenji find out that Juliette's real name is Ella. They also find out that Juliette and Warner had known each other for years. Their memories had been wiped multiple times because they were constantly falling in love with each other. Warner finds himself in a prison cell, away from Juliette, while Juliette is in Oceania. Juliette's adoptive mother Evie, is the supreme commander of Oceania. Juliette is constantly being mistreated by Evie, as Evie wants to use Juliette as a replacement for Emmaline to continue Operation Synthesis.

Nazeera confesses her love for Kenji, and they kiss in Kenji's room. Nazeera breaks away from the kissing, saying that her relationship with Kenji will not work out.

Warner also meets his father. Paris was killed in Ignite Me, but Evie and Max Sommers healed him with the power they have gained from kidnapping Sonya and Sara. Nazeera and Kenji steal a plane, and they split up. Nazeera helps Warner escape, minutes before Warner is getting killed. Nazeera saves Juliette. They land in Nouria's camp. Nouria is Castle's daughter who got kidnapped. Nouria and her partner Sam run a camp together. Nouria uses her power of light to protect the campers.

Warner asks Kenji for help, as he wants to propose to Juliette. Kenji tells him to get her a ring, but Warner is not familiar with the artisans as they are living in Nouria's camp. After Warner and Juliette finish making out in bed and are laying down, Warner says "Juliette, I know i'm not doing this the right way, and Kenji told me to get you a ring but will you marry me?" Juliette is in tears and happily accepts. Juliette says to Warner "yes to everything with you", and they continue making out.

Imagine Me[]

Believe Me[]

Warner sent the children of the Supreme Commanders back to their respective continents. They will be able to assess the current situation abroad and neutralize chaos wherever possible. Because of Juliette spending ten days in a coma, whenever Warner can't see her, his brain tries to convince him she's dead. Warner and Juliette get married.

Characteristics[]

Personality[]

Warner comes off as cruel and calculated, meticulous about his hygiene and wardrobe, and a detail-oriented perfectionist. He has worked to make himself into a feared leader, which he's done. He rules Sector 45 with an iron fist and can shoot a man dead without batting an eye. As a result, his soldiers see him as a sick, twisted psychopath. Due to his violent upbringing, Warner knows little about showing affection. He has never experienced friendship or felt empathy until he begins to read Juliette's notebook. Warner knows full well that he's a terrible person, and while he doesn't take pride in it, he also doesn't try to pretend to be someone he's not. He readily admits that he's ruthless. Due to his upbringing, Warner is clearly not a typical man for his age. For example, when Kenji asks if Warner is "out of his mind" for waking up at three in the morning every day, Warner replies without any irony, "no more than usual." Warner describes his mind as “a warehouse of carefully organized human emotions.” He “can almost see his brain as it functions, filing thoughts and images away.”[3] This allows him to focus only on what needs to be done, usually that’s the basic components of survival and the things he must manage throughout the day.

Despite his reputation, Warner shows his humanitarian side when he visits civilians at their homes, showing concern for their problems and trying to fix them. His childhood experiences have left him with zero tolerance for domestic abusers and a willingness to take action against them. Warner is incredibly hardworking. He is known to always assume the worst about himself. Warner says that disorder "offends his very being."[4] He believes he has sentenced himself to a life of solitude.

Warner is typically cold, coercive, and manipulative. He knows he is under constant surveillance and every aspects of his life is monitored and documented by The Reestablishment. As he spends more time away from such intense security and scrutiny, and more time with Juliette, Warner begins to relax slightly. He is willing to do anything to make her happy, and this is the driving force behind his actions.

Though he appears confident and self-possessed, Warner has secret insecurities about all his soldiers hating him. He is self-conscious about the scars on his back. When the pressure eventually becomes too much, he has panic attacks. He is filled with self-loathing. He hates himself for never being able to stand up to his father. Aaron says that “becoming an instrument of torture destroyed what was left of his mind.” He suffers from nightmares, panic attacks, and dark, destructive thoughts. Warner has been obsessed with cleanliness for as long as he can remember. He thinks because he's "always been so mired in death and destruction that he’s overcompensated by keeping himself as pristine as possible.” He likes to take long baths, especially when he is experiencing any extreme level of emotion. He brushes and flosses three times a day. [5]

Appearance[]

Warner is excessively beautiful. He is nineteen years old, with rich, golden blond hair and stunning, clear, green eyes that look like pale emeralds. He has a defined, sharp, and strong jawline and dimples when he smiles. He has sharp cheekbones and a sharp, straight nose. He is tall, slender, and toned. Everything about him reminds Juliette of a blade. He has clear skin with a slight tan. Warner is 5'9" and weighs 170 pounds. In Restore Me, Warner cuts his hair to a buzz cut. He's been built to survive, to maximize endurance and stamina, and he's most comfortable when holding a gun.

Warner is considered inhumanly handsome. Juliette describes him as "almost too perfect."[6] Kenji describes him as "shiny, polished, eerily calm and put together."[3] He is very good at hiding his emotions and his face usually appears impassive. Kenji further describes Warner, saying he "moves like a prince. He's always dressed like a prince in shiny boots and fitted suits. He always seems pulled together, cool, and cold."[7]

Warner has scars on his back, all of which he explains as "gifts" from his father for each of his birthdays since he was six years old until his eighteenth birthday. He has two tattoos. One is the word "IGNITE," which stands for "I grieve nothing. I take everything," on his upper back. His other tattoo is below his hipbone, and is a quote from Shakespeare's The Tempest, "Hell is empty, and all the devils are here."

Special Abilities[]

Power Absorption: Warner can borrow other people's powers by absorbing their energies. Shown when he accidentally harmed Kenji with Juliette's powers, made himself invisible using Kenji's powers, crushed with his bare palms through concrete in the ground in Omega Point when showing Juliette his ability, and when he healed Juliette with Sara and Sonya's powers. There was another occasion when he used Castle's ability to hold up rubble that almost fell on top of Juliette while she was training with Kenji in his training room. Also, when he was shot by Ibrahim, he used his father's new healing powers to partially heal his bullet wound. Juliette's superhuman strength is useless on Warner because he just absorbs her power.

Energy Sensing: Warner is able to sense the energy of others. It is through his ability to sense the energy of others that he can sense their feelings. He has a supernatural ability that allows him to know everyone's emotions. However, it does not work as efficiently when his feelings are involved. People are able to hide their true feelings from him.

Warner and Juliette Ferrars

Juliette Ferrars[]

Main article: Juliette and Warner

Juliette is his wife for whom he has developed a passionate and overwhelming love since he met her. They grew up together as children until Juliette was taken by the Reestablishment as a project, and Warner's memories of her were erased. As they grew up, Warner's father continued to put them together and erase their memory of each other, each time they found themselves drawn together. Delalieu said that they always found a way to fall for each other. They had a happy ending.

Paris Anderson[]

Aaron and Anderson despise each other. Anderson is emotionally and physically abusive towards Aaron. Anderson beat and whipped Warner to teach him to be cruel, just like his own parents did. He forces Warner to try to live up to his unrealistic expectations, just to watch him fail. Warner has tried many times to kill Anderson in his sleep, but he always broke down and was never able to follow through with it. Warner has never been able to stand up to his father, which makes him hate himself. Anderson makes a point of almost shooting Juliette in front of him, simply to take away the one thing Warner ever actually cared about, besides his mother. When Anderson's skin even brushes against Warner's skin, it makes Warner want to vomit.

Adam Kent[]

Aaron and Adam are half-brothers through their father. Adam doesn't learn of their connection until he sees Anderson in his role of Supreme Commander, who is known to be Warner's father. Adam and Warner despise each other. Adam thinks Warner is a psychopathic monster. He describes Warner as "an animal," saying he "doesn't think he even knows what it means to be human."[8] Warner thinks Adam is a mindless soldier who is only capable of following orders. He didn't know that Adam's powers were negating his own ability to sense emotions. Warner is furiously jealous of Adam and Juliette's relationship. Adam has his own feelings of jealousy when Juliette begins developing a relationship with Warner. When Warner learns about his connection to Adam and James, he makes the first step towards improving their relationship. After Anderson's death, Adam and Warner have a conversation about their feelings and their relationship continues to improve. In the end, Adam and Warner are able to mostly get along and be in each other's company.

Leila Warner[]

Warner had a strong relationship with his mother; she cared for him as a child, and she shielded him from Paris Anderson when he was angry. He visited her several times every year, including her birthday. Warner had been trying to find a cure for his mother's illness, but she died in Ignite Me, and Warner grieved her loss greatly. It is found that Warner was looking for Juliette to find a cure for her as Juliette and Leila's abilities are similar.

James Kent[]

James also is Warner's half-brother. Warner is very nervous around James, but James is carefree and laid-back around Warner. Until Imagine Me, James is not aware of his genetic ties to Warner because Adam convinced him their parents died in a plane crash, and doesn't think he's quite ready to know yet. While with Anderson at the beginning of Imagine Me, Anderson reveals the truth about his family.

Kenji Kishimoto[]

Although they never got along in the first three books, Kenji being more of an annoying fly than a human being to Warner, they befriend each other in Restore Me when Warner is under the influence of his pills. They spend two hours talking about Juliette to Warner's own feelings with Kenji providing him advice on what to do. Before then, they seemed to have a dislike for each other, despite Juliette's effort to make them, hang out. In Defy Me, he gives advice about Warner wanting to propose to Juliette, but Warner ignores him. Kenji always has something witty ready to say to Warner to lighten any mood.

Lena Mishkin[]

Warner's ex-girlfriend, and daughter of the Supreme Commander of Europe. Lena is still bitter at Warner after he broke up with her through her mother. Warner described their relationship as purely physical and claimed he never truly loved her. She had also yelled at him and had slapped him several times because he didn’t love her. Mafi stated that Warner broke up with Lena with a note to her mother. It is also mentioned that Lena truly loved him and Aaron was the only subject she talked about to Nazeera.
